During Covid-19 the film and TV production industry were hit hard. The industry faced many significant challenges and many productions were placed on hold. With the uncertainty up in the air and restrictions continuously changing, it had left the industry struggling.
However, it is not all doom and gloom as the government announces a £500m scheme launch to help the industry and those struggling to get back out there. On 28th of July 2020, the culture secretary Oliver Dowden announced the new launch of this government-backed scheme for the UK film and TV productions that are struggling to get insurance for Covid related costs.
This is launched in the efforts to help productions across the country that have been halted and/or delayed due to the inability to obtain insurance for Covid-19 related risks. This will support the industry to get back up and running and support those who have been it the hardest. Through this the productions will be able to regain the confidence and reassurance that they will be supported if future losses are incurred due to the pandemic.
The scheme rules and any supplementary explanatory notes can be found on gov.uk.
